When was the last time you heard of someone being too good at something that they were banned from it? Well it happened in New Haven CT the other day.
Basically a 9 year old playing in New Haven Little League Baseball can throw up to 40 miles per hour. I guess that is pretty fast for 9. Even though my son is 7 and has hit off of the batting cages at 40 and 50mph. Anyway, this boy has been striking everyone out with his heat. He also has not hit any batter so his control is pretty good. So what happens? Well an opposing team forfiets the game and the league kicks him out. Can you believe it? Hey, Michael Jordan, your not allowed to drop 55 on the Knicks anymore so you can't play in the Garden. Hey, Tom Brady, 50 touchdown passes is a little too much, can you scale it down. Hey, Michael Phelps...go easy on those other countries...maybe you can share one of your 8 gold medals.
Get real! What is this teaching our kids? Failure is ok? You play the game to win. PERIOD. If you don't like losing, don't play or try harder. This is the same mentality that parents have when their kids get a B from their teachers as opposed to the preconcived notion that little Johnny or Susie should of gotten an A. So what do they do, they complain to the principal. Puh-lease. This is so absurd that it maks my blood boil when I am thinking about it.

3 games in and it feels like it never left. I am talking about MLB. It is great to watch games. I am catching myself watching the Nats Vs the Phillies. What? Man I missed baseball. I think football is my all time favorite sport to watch but there is something about baseball that is just genuine excitement. Maybe it is the thought of summer. Maybe it is the thought of going to the games or the thought when you were a child playing it everywhere. Man, I love baseball.

Wow. Oh my. Whatever you want to say, it needs to be said with a jaw dropping expression. I still cannot belive it. I feel the same way that I felt when Mariano walked off the mound blowing the save against the Diamondbacks in the 2001 World Series. There is something about being a Pats fan though. You are not out of it. How many times have we come back and won. Brady is "Terrific Tom". He is unfalable. Or is he?
I watched 14 of the 16 regular season games the Pats played this year. Start to finish. In each of the games they went for the kill. They played Patriot ball. A few trick plays but some dink and dunk and home runs. The defense played tough. Every game it was Bruschi and Vrable and Seau and somebody fromt he secondary. Every game. Why would this one be any different. I dont think Pats fans where "cocky", we just figured if they do what they do then they would win.
The playoffs were the first time I thought something was wrong. They beat Jacksonville but not like they should have. Where was the pumped up players? Where was the Pats from early on in the season? Did they leave it out on the field in Week 17 vs the Giants? Where was Tom Brady in the San Diego game? 3 picks? C'mon Tom, get your head in the game.
That is my theory. Tom's head is not in the game. I spoke to a friend of mine and said I can see Tom Brady retiring if they win the Super Bowl. What else does he have to prove? 4 rings, few MVP's and an undefeated team. I saw it with his head down in the Charger game. I saw it in this game.
I read
Bill Simmons article on page 2 of ESPN. Very good read. I think he saw it too.
I have 2 key points to the game.
- Go for it on 4th and Short in the 2nd quater. That is what we do.
- Don't go for it on 4th and 13 in the 3rd quater.
There are others you can say but we should have went for it in the 2nd quater. Big mistake.
Thankfully it is a short winter.
